Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival 2013 – Street Light-Up

Description: There is no better place to soak in the festivities and celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival than in Chinatown. The district, where the Chinese first settled, relives the traditional festival with aplomb. Be enchanted by the lantern-themed decorations of Chinatown as New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Streeet, South Bridge Road and the inner streets of Chinatown are decorated and lit up by a spectacular myriad of over 20,000 colorful lanterns of varying shapes and sizes, creating a kaleidoscope of colors. The streets of Chinatown will continue to be lighted up from 7 September to 4 October 2013. Singapore Biennale 2013

Description: A biennal art celebration of epic proportions. The rich cultures and geographies of the Southeast Asian region have historically been the corridor of the world’s major civilisations. The ebb and flow of these complex cultural interactions have yielded responses of accommodation and resistance, leaving legacies of layering and sedimentation within the varied communities. In the 21st century, the speed of transformation in Southeast Asia is perhaps beyond anything experienced by preceding generations. This change is prompting multiple conceptions and perceptions of time and our worlds, both the external and internal. Against this backdrop of past and continuous change, artists have been reflecting, mediating, envisioning, and making propositions. If The World Changed, the title of the 4th Singapore Biennale, is an invitation to artists to respond to and reconsider the worlds we live in, and the worlds we want to live in.
Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb

Description: For the first time in Southeast Asia, secrets of the mysterious Egyptian burial practices and mummification process will be revealed in Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb. Immerse yourself in a 3D film experience that captures the “virtual unwrapping” of the 3,000-year old mummy of Egyptian temple priest Nesperennub – whose original cartonnage coffin has never been opened – to unveil the story of his life and death, complete with a digital reconstruction of his facial appearance. Be amazed with over 100 artefacts, including six exceptionally preserved mummies from the extensive and famed Egyptian collection of the British Museum. The exhibition will explore the mysterious rituals of life, death and the afterlife in ancient Egypt. This exhibition is presented through the collaboration of The British Museum and ArtScience Museum.
