Since the meet up with her in Feb 2012, Eileen has understood our needs and convinced us to hold our wedding @ RiverView. The wedding package was well elaborated and she did her utmost best to satisfy our wants and needs for our wedding. From the event planning, to food tasting, and to the actual day, she has proven to be always there when we needed her and to answer all our queries. She has delivered what was promised and even more, with regards to the hotel rooms arrangement. We will like to sincerely thank you for your great effort in making our event a memorable one.

2. Sam Ker, our banquet manager
Our meet up with Sam made us felt very assured. With his experience and expertise, he managed to give us a feel on what to expect on the actual day. On the actual day, he showed that everything was in control and that is very assuring for us. The setup at the reception and ballroom was done up very smoothly, and the briefing for the dinner was clear and concise, enabling our helping friends to carry out their roles without a hitch. Throughout the dinner, Sam assuring smile made us felt relax and composed. From the first march in , to second march in, cutting cake and champagne pouring, Sam was there to guide us, helping us. Sam has gone an extra mile to help us play our pre wedding montage during our reception. We have 3 DVDs that we wanted to play for our guests. Having only one disc player, Sam took the effort to manually switch the discs within every 10 mins interval (approx). Having done so, our guests were able to view all our pre wedding Montage during the reception. We are very glad to have Sam as our banquet coordinator and will like to express our thanks to him for making our event a memorable one, and a total success!

3. Joon Kiat
We will like to thank Joon Kiat for resolving our music issue during our solemnization. Our solemnizer has turned up early and requested to push forward our timing. Joon Kiat was able to find a wonderful song to be played during our ceremony, in a very short notice. Towards the end of our dinner, he also paid extra care to round up our wedding gifts that was left behind by our guest for us to keep. Thank you Joon Kiat in helping making our wedding a success!

4. Chefs
We will like to highlight that all our guests complimented on the great food that was served, especially the chicken dish. We are very happy that our guest are very satisfied and proved that we did not make a wrong choice in choosing RiverView Hotel. The wine that was served during our dinner was also complimented by our guests, quoting that it is one of the better wines that they had for banquet dinners.

5. Service personnel
Our guests were also singing praises for the waiters and waitresses for their service throughout the dinner. RiverView hotel has proven that 1 service personnel to 2 tables can be done with great service. Our guests also pointed out that all the hotel staff are polite, friendly and attentive to their needs, from our solemnization ceremony right till the end of our dinner.

Cool Customs = Happy Weddings + Marriage

1. To symbolise eternity and a smooth, endless journey of love and marriage, wedding rings are fashioned like a circle as there is no ending line for this shape.
2. A geomancer is often sought to select an auspicious date, with the couple’s birth dates taken into consideration, as wedding is an once-in-a-lifetime event.
3. It is a custom to light a pair of candles or red lamps is lit on the wedding night in the bridal suite as its bright flame will fend off evil spirits.
4. Si Dian Jin (四点金) means giving jewellery to the bride.  It means that the mother-in-law is telling her that she (the bride) will always have a comfortable roof over her head. Si Dian Jin is given during the formal betrothal or Guo Da Li (过大礼).
5. During Guo Da Li (过大礼), which usually takes place on an auspicious date 2 weeks before the wedding, the groom will visit the bride’s family with a matchmaker or parents to give the Betrothal Gifts ( 聘礼).
6. The Betrothal Gifts ( 聘礼)  would generally consist of 2 pairs of Dragon and Phoenix candles, 8 to 12 oranges, 2 bottles of wine, Pin Jin (聘金), wedding cakes and Si Dian Jin (四点金). A whole roasted suckling pig has to be presented in completely intact as a mark of respect for the bride’s family.
7. The Dowry (嫁妆) from the bride includes a pair of wedding towels, a tea set for the tea ceremony, a pair each of bowls, chopsticks and spoons, a part of the Pin Jin (聘金) and the 2 Phoenix candles from the Betrothal Gifts, sewing kit, double happiness (囍) basin and mug.
8. The sewing kit, which is part of the Dowry, signifies that the bride is a perfect wife. The kit is filled with auspicious items that have special meanings, e.g., the pin cushion with little boys on it signifies fertility, etc.
9. It is a common practice to buy a new bed with new bed sheet that is usually in red or other auspicious colours for the bridal bed. The bed is not to be used before the wedding and to appease the fertility God to bless the couple to be able to easily bear a healthy baby boy; a young and healthy male toddler will be chosen to jump on the bed during an auspicious date.
10. The hair of the bride and groom is combed four times on the night before the wedding by a parent or an elderly member of the family. There is a special meaning for each combing – 1st: from beginning till the end, 2nd: harmony from now till old age, 3rd: wishes for sons and grandsons, 4th: wishes for good wealth and a long-lasting marriage.
11. During the tea ceremony, the couple would serve tea to all family members and call them by their official title.  When a family member drinks the tea, it means that he or she accepts the bride or the groom into the family.
12. As red is an auspicious colour, cash is given to the couples in a red packet. The amount must be in even numbers, e.g., $20, $60, $80, etc., as odd number are to be avoided, as well as amounts with “4” because the number sounds like “death” in Chinese and a few other dialects.
